I’ll Show You Mine: December 2011

On the first Wednesday of every month we will be taking it in turns to address a topic that has inspired us and sparked our curiosity. Or – for the very brave – we’ll have a go at exploring our deepest, darkest secrets to the rest of the LFH team.

This kind of initiative reminds us to constantly keep our eyes and ears open because we believe that it’s so important to be constantly on the look-out for exciting and inspiring subjects to share with – well, whoever will listen!

Here’s December’s dish:

Chrissy Levett, Creative Director, on ‘the joy of fruit stickers’

One of Chrissy’s many obsessions is her passion for collecting fruit stickers.

What began at art school as a bit of a hobby  now amounts to a collection of thousands of stickers which Chrissy lovingly curates across dozens of scrapbooks and, more latterly, she has started to arrange them in a series of artworks around her home.

During her presentation, Chrissy talked us through the different characters, names and scenes on some of her favourite stickers and these explanations brought home to us just why she is so passionate about them. Upon closer inspection, many of them are associated with lovely stories – either in the way that they were found or about the sticker itself.

Some are pretty whimsical, others are just downright strange. Interestingly, they are made not only from paper, but foils and fabrics and the printing specification, use of colour and embossing is pretty impressive.

Chrissy now employs the help of her global network of friends in her quest for fruit stickers so this is a collection that will just grow and grow.

Andrew Davis, Colour and Reprographics Director, on ‘the joy of hex’

After Chrissy, it was Andrew,s turn to step up and – as expected – he didn’t disappoint! He took to the stage and proceeded to blow our minds. He shared with us a quick and simple breakdown of how the company’s patented ‘Chapter 1 Colour Palette’ works and swiftly moved onto his favourite subject – ‘The Universe’. But, being Andrew, he dressed his presentation up in his very own distinctive fashion by playing heavily on transformations from the ‘Big Bang’ to the weaving of states of consciousness.

The Higgs Boson was nowhere to be seen but the lasting footprint of the most cunning of particles was definitely imprinted on us forever, and this became a ‘Show and Tell’ we won’t forget in a hurry, however hard we might try! His highbrow subject were accompanied by some beautiful images of exploding stars, black holes and super novas.

The first “I’ll Show You Mine” was a great success with everyone walking away feeling full (from the delicious food provided), inspired by the depth of character in a fruit sticker and somewhat confused – not to mention, bemusde – by a presentation that made us question our own reality (and Andrew’s).

We felt every emotion, listened hard and assessed every type of cheese nibble present. Not bad for 45 minutes work!

Same again next month!

    Hello,
    my name is Žan Trošt.
    I come from Laško, Slovenia.
I have been collecting fruit stickers for 6 years now. I have about 7000 stickers.
Is it possible that we can exchange some fruit or vegetables stickers?
    Best regards,
    Žan
