Kickstand – a New Year resolution

You know how it is, we’ve had our Christmas party (and made an appearance at pretty much everyone else’s). Suddenly it’s feels normal to be offered a glass of wine and a mince pie after being seated in the movie theatre. The restaurants are full of revellers swapping their (not so) secret Santas (do I look like the kind of girl who needs a plastic candy striped trowel?). We even find ourselves gladly accepting a pre-bed liqueur (biscotti flavoured Bailey’s to be precise) – on a ‘school night’.

Yes, it’s the last few days before Christmas and London has gone mad.

It’s hard to imagine that, within a few days, our focus will be on the dreaded ‘New Year’s Resolutions’. For most of us, that will mean taking a lot less of the things we love, and doing a lot more of the things we hate – those things that are good for us. Like EXERCISE.

Some of us, of course, absolutely LOVE exercise. I’m mentioning no names here, but the idea of a 6am ‘boot camp’ on Blackheath is – to my mind – nothing short of insanity.

No, there has to be an easier way. A way in which we can get fit in the warm; where there is no requirement to wear a fluorescent tabard. And look here, when the New Year kicks in, check out the Kickstand.

Yes, this really IS a desk that thinks it’s a cycle rack.

I just love the way those crazy guys describe it:

We’re cyclists. We want to ride, but we have to work. Unless you’re riding for work, you’re not riding at work.

Our idea was simple: create a way that someone could ride at work. Rather than change careers and become couriers, we decided to solve the problem with furniture; creating desks and accessories designed for those of us who need to be at a desk, but long to be on the road.

Cycle desks, like treadmill desks and stand-up desks reflect a change in how we view office furniture. The traditional desk and chair combination is losing ground to these modern alternatives. Our designs reflect this, both in function and aesthetic, allowing us to do what we love while we do what we need.

This is our concept: ride + work.

Only in America. I rather like it and I can think of at least two members of our team who might be tempted to add one to their Christmas list.

Me? Throughout the month of January, I’m planning to travel to the studio via a Zoingo Boingo Pogo/Lolo Ball.
